In a high-scoring encounter at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a dominant six-wicket victory over the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Chasing a massive target, the Royals reached the finish line comfortably, marking their fourth consecutive win in IPL 2026. The highlight of the match was young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who played a blistering knock, reaching his half-century in just 15 balls.
RCB Equals Major Record Despite Defeat
Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a bittersweet night in Guwahati. While they lost the match, they managed to equal a massive IPL record. By crossing the 200-run mark in this game, RCB has now recorded a 200-plus score 37 times in tournament history.
They are now tied for the top spot with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Other teams on this list include Punjab Kings (33 times), Mumbai Indians (32 times), and Kolkata Knight Riders (30 times). However, this also brought a bit of unwanted history for Bengaluru, as it was the seventh time they lost a match after scoring over 200, a record they now share with Punjab Kings.
Early Breakthroughs and Kohli’s Exit
The match started with a bang as Jofra Archer dismissed Phil Salt on the very first ball of the game. Dhruv Jurel took a comfortable catch after Salt failed to handle a rising delivery. Despite the early blow, Virat Kohli looked in sublime touch, hitting three boundaries in a single over against Archer.
Kohli’s stay was cut short by Ravi Bishnoy in the fifth over. The leg-spinner bowled a perfect googly that deceived Kohli, cleaning him up for 32 runs. Later in the innings, Rajat Patidar played a steady knock, reaching his half-century with a boundary off Sandeep Sharma. During this innings, Patidar also completed 3,000 T20 runs in his 95th innings.
Milestones for Sandeep Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Rajasthan’s veteran pacer Sandeep Sharma achieved a personal milestone by taking his 150th IPL wicket in his 140th match. He is now the sixth-fastest bowler to reach this landmark, a list headed by Lasith Malinga (105 matches).
The chase belonged entirely to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The youngster showed no fear, smashing back-to-back sixes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to reach his fifty. His second six was a lucky break; although Phil Salt caught the ball at long-leg, his foot touched the boundary rope, gifting Suryavanshi both the runs and his half-century.
Rajasthan Royals continued their winning streak in IPL 2026 by defeating RCB by six wickets. Despite RCB equaling CSK’s record for most 200+ scores, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 15-ball fifty ensured a comfortable victory for the Royals in Guwahati.
